Temporary food license fee reduced

April 23, 2003

The Washington County Commissioners voted on Tuesday to lower the temporary food service license fee for once-a-year events to $15, after a public hearing that drew no comments from residents.

The County Commissioners approved the measure 3-1. Commissioner John C. Munson opposed the proposal, saying he didn't think any fee should be charged.

Commissioners President Gregory I. Snook was not at Tuesday's meeting.

The Washington County Health Department recommended lowering the fee by $35, from $50 to $15 for once-a-year events, including yard sales. Health officials said they had received concerns from participants in the annual Mile-Long Yard Sale about the $50 fee.

The Mile-Long Yard Sale is held every Fourth of July in the Paradise Drive and Long Meadow Road area.
