Food service inspections

The following food service establishments were inspected by the Washington County Health Department in March and found to have critical violations that needed to be corrected immediately:

Oliver's Pub Restaurant. 1565-67 Potomac Ave., Hagers-town. *Cans stored in the ice machine (corrected); hoods, hood filters, floors around all appliances, all cooking equipment, ceilings, shelving and floors inside walk-in appliances need cleaning; must replace light bulbs; thermometers must be present in all refrigerator/freezer units, (corrected); must replace missing ceiling tiles; must label all chemical spray bottles; no soap or towels at hand-washing sink; must replace exhaust fan in men's restroom; Styrofoam containers must be stored in original plastic sleeves or dispensers.

Pizza Barn. 15616 National Pike, Hagerstown. *Product cannot be stored outside refrigeration (corrected); must repair trash lid and keep it closed; must clean screen on drain; product cannot be stored on floor of walk-in; must clean floor of walk-in and equipment line; thermometer needed in freezer; soap and paper products needed at hand sink.

IHOP. 17820 Garland Groh Blvd., Hagerstown. *Must dispose of dented can (corrected); *must keep dipper well running (corrected); must keep trash lid closed and clean; floors around ice machine need cleaning; drain at ice machine needs cleaning; must not store employee drinks over food; must keep product covered in walk-in; must replace light and shield; choking poster needed.

Food Lion. 18360 College Road, Hagerstown. *Meatballs are not kept hot enough (corrected); must seal hole in wall in storage area.

Maryland Correctional Institution. 18601 Roxbury Road, Hagerstown. Must repair ceilings, date all bulk containers and repair dripping faucets; screens needed on open windows; must paint window frames in kitchen; must repair trash lids; must not store employee drinks over food; must clean inside of ice machine, replace burned out lights, replace missing floor tiles and clean soda nozzles. In the officers' kitchen, *milk spout must be cut off 1/2-inch below lever (corrected); no employee drinks permitted in preparation area; must decarbonize all pans, clean can opener, place paper towels at hand sinks and repair hand sink.

El Paso. 700 Dual Highway, Hagerstown. *Must discard severely dented can of tomatoes (corrected); must store items off the floor in storage room; must clean floors in storage room; containers of rice and beans need to be cleaned and lids replaced; no soap or soap dispenser at hand sink; must replace missing ceiling tiles; chemical fuel stabilizer stored over open food product (corrected); light bulbs must be shielded; uncovered food items in walk-in refrigerator and freezer; food cannot be stored on floor of walk-ins; floors of walk-ins need cleaning; exhaust hood filters need cleaning; exhaust steam vent needs repairs; must clean soda nozzles; trash can lid needs repair; grease container needs cleaning; large tortilla chip containers need cleaning; one large tortilla container broken.

Weis Markets. 31 Eastern Ave., Hagerstown. *Hot foods not hot enough (corrected); bottles must be labeled (corrected); must provide towels at hand sink (corrected); single-service items must be in original plastic or in dispensers.

Goodwill Athletic Association. 128 N. Mulberry St., Hagerstown. *Carton of half-and-half more than four days beyond sell date and improperly stored in the ice machine (corrected).

Superior Ice Cream. 500 Chestnut Ave., Hagerstown. *Cold foods not cold enough (corrected); wet wiping cloths must be stored in sanitizer (corrected); must repair all holes and gaps in walls and ceilings and repair or replace broken floor tiles.

Burger King. 503 Dual Highway, Hagerstown. *Canadian bacon out of temperature, discarded; must clean grease buildup under hood and replace light bulb in freezer; need thermometers in all refrigeration/freezing units; water in dish machine not hot enough.

Clarion Hotel and Conference Center. 901 Dual Highway, Hagerstown. *Cold food not cold enough (corrected); must clean floor under soda fountain, seal all gaps and holes in walls and repair all broken floor tiles; water in dish machine not hot enough; must replace gauges in dish machine, clean hood filters, install light bulb shields, obtain chemical test strips for sink and replace missing ceiling tiles; must not store pans on the floor.

Sheetz. 16420 National Pike, Hagerstown. Must store all wipe cloths in sanitizer (corrected); *must cut milk spout off no longer than 1 inch below lever (corrected); must repair ceiling and clean lid of ice machine (corrected); thermometer needed in universal unit (corrected).

Wendy's Old-Fashioned Hamburgers. 1520 Wesel Boulevard, Hagerstown. *Hot foods not hot enough (corrected); must replace light bulb under hood; need to obtain choking poster.
