James T. Poindexter


James Talbot "Jim" Poindexter, 80, of 19026 Longmeadow Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Dec. 10, 1922, in Fairmont, W.Va., he was the son of the late Walker W. and Anne Talbot Poindexter.

He was a 1938 graduate of Dupont Manual High School in Louisville, Ky.

He was employed as a sales representative by Belknap Hardware for 48 years.

He was a member of Washington Square United Methodist Church where he served as lay leader, Sunday school teacher, administrative board member and treasurer.

He was a volunteer of Children's Village where he served on the board of directors, the budget and finance committee and as treasurer.

He was the president, secretary, treasurer and chaplain of Travelers' Protection Association.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Vivian G. Poindexter; a daughter, Betty M. Barnes of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two sons, Robert W. Poindexter of Hagerstown and James R. Poindexter of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Washington Square United Methodist Church, Hagerstown. The Revs. Owen B. Womack and Louis L. Emmerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown.

Stephen C. Grove


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Stephen C. Grove, 46, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, April 17, 2003, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born Feb. 19, 1957, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Margaret Butts Grove.

He was employed as a school bus driver by Berkeley County Schools, driving bus numbers 176 and 204.

He was a 1975 graduate of Martinsburg High School.

He was a former member of Martinsburg Moose Lodge 120 and Bedington Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by a sister, Marlene Walker of Waterford, Pa., and a nephew.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Tom Boggess will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Nellie G. Bowen


KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Nellie G. Bowen, 86, of Kearneysville, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.

Born in Smythe County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Stephen H. and Laura B. Hall Parks.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Bowen.

She had worked for Zerox Inc. as a custodian.

She is survived by six daughters, Dorothy B. Swain, Mary E. Bowen, Margie B. Lugo and Janice B. Brenthall, all of Virginia, Nellie B. Droke of Memphis, Tenn., and Kathryn Spring of West Virginia; four sons, Charles Bowen and William R. Bowen, both of Massachusetts, Earl K. Bowen of Virginia and David Bowen of West Virginia; seven sisters; a brother, 27 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sisters.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg, W.Va. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family received friends Friday, April 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.




Mary Lou Kuhlman


Mary Lou Kuhlman, 73, of 71 Sunbrook Lane, Hagerstown, died Friday, April 18, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born July 9, 1929, in Westernport, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Alice Hardin Lashorn.

She was a 1947 graduate of Allegheny High School.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert George Kuhlman; a son, Robert G. Kuhlman Jr. of Silver Spring, Md.; and a granddaughter, Kimberley A. Kuhlman of Silver Spring.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. George A. Limmer will be celebrant. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown.

Edith E. Trovinger


Edith E. Baker Trovinger, 87, of Old Forge Road in Hagerstown, who died Thursday, April 17, 2003, was born May 27, 1915.




Marlin and Alberta J. Thurmond


WILLIAMSPORT - A memorial service for Marlin Thurmond, who died in 1999, and his wife, Alberta Jane "Bertie" Thurmond, of Williamsport, who died Jan. 8, 2003, will be held Saturday, May 10, at 11 a.m. at Brook Lane Chapel near Leitersburg.




Homer E. Stoner


HANCOCK - Homer E. Stoner, 80, of Washington Street, who died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, is survived by a sister, Linda S. Poole, of Hedgesville, W.Va.

The Revs. F. Allan Weatherholt Jr. and Anne O. Weatherholt and Lay Associate Steven L. McCarty will officiate the service.
