William R. Bonner


BOONSBORO - William R. "Dixie" Bonner, 89, formerly of Mapleville Road, died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Fahrney-Keedy Home in Boonsboro.

Born Nov. 29, 1913, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Harry Franklin and Bessie Myrtle Renica Bonner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Regina M. Duffey Bonner, on Aug. 12, 2000.

He worked in the trucking industry since 1950, and retired from P.I.E. Trucking as traffic manager.

He was a Protestant.

He was a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge 378, Hagerstown and served on committees.

He is survived by one daughter, Christine A. Funk of Fort Loudon, Pa.; one granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, W. Rodger Bonner Jr.; and one brother, Glenn Bonner.

Services will be today at 10 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, North Potomac Street, Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family received friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The Elks Club provided honors.

Marie H. Peiffer


WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Marie H. Hershey Peiffer, 91, of 13409 Old Mill Road, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Nov. 16, 1911, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Roger and Violet Florence Myers Hershey.

Her husband, J. Norman Peiffer, died Jan. 23, 1995. They were married July 20, 1937.

She and her husband owned and operated the Shell Station at 302 E. Main St. and Peiffer's Heating and Oil Co., both in Waynesboro.

She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Quincy, Pa.

She was a member and had served as treasurer of Mount Vernon Chapter 398 Order of the Eastern Star in Waynesboro; and a member of Falling Spring Court 139, Order of the Amaranth.

She is survived by one niece, Anne Colvin of Richmond, Va.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Helen H. Miller; and one nephew.

Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. The Rev. James M. Russell will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service at 10:30 a.m.

Diane L. McCarty


MERCERSBURG, Pa. -Diane Lynn McCarty, 42, of Little Cove Road, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at her home.

Born Feb. 9, 1961, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of Vernon F. and Louise J. Johnson Fritz of Mercersburg.

She was employed by JLG Industries in McConnellsburg, Pa.

She was a member of Little Cove United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Gary E. McCarty, whom she married Nov. 6, 1977; one daughter, April N. Fritz-Bard of McConnellsburg; one son, Vernon E. McCarty, at home; one sister, Barbara K. Keefer of Mercersburg; one brother, Larry V. Fritz of Hancock; and nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Little Cove United Methodist Cemetery, Mercersburg. The Rev. Frank Kocek will officiate.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, which will open at 2 p.m.

Gertrude J. Robertson


THURMONT, Md. -Gertrude Jeanette Ruth Robertson, 72, of 125 Cody Drive, died Monday, April 14, 2003, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Born July 24, 1930, in Green Ridge, Md., she was the daughter of the late James B. and Rosa Farris Kasecamp.

She was a member of Graceham Moravian Church, where she was a member of the Caring Team and the Women's Association.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene A. Robertson, whom she married Dec. 19, 1947; one daughter, Sheila Leas of Honolulu; three sisters, Barbara McDonald of Hagerstown, Georgia Brown of Paw Paw, W.Va., and Sally A. Vachon of Reisterstown, Md.; one brother, Charles T. Kasecamp of Wilmington, Del.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Graceham Moravian Church, Graceham. The Rev. Jeffrey D. Gehris will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens near Frederick, Md.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Home, Thurmont, which will open at 1 p.m. Visitation also will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the church.
