Items stolen from Smithsburg garage


SMITHSBURG - Someone broke into a garage late Saturday or early Sunday at the rear of 48 W. Water St. and stole a number of items, Washington County Sheriff's deputies said.

The resident told Deputy First Class John Martin that access to the garage location can be made only by using an alley to the rear of the home.

Anyone who might have seen suspicious activity in that area is asked to contact either Martin at 240-313-2170, the Smithsburg Police Department at 301-824-3500 or Crime Solvers of Washington County at 301-733-4141.

Apartment complex sign vandalized


Washington County Sheriff's deputies were called to the Stonecroft Apartments off Robinwood Drive Sunday for reports of malicious destruction of property.

When deputies arrived, they discovered two lighting fixtures that illuminate the sign for the complex had been damaged. The sign also was destroyed.

Total damage was estimated at $3,800, deputies said.

The crime is believed to have occurred sometime between 4:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday, deputies said.
