Former councilman honored with plaque

HANCOCK - The Hancock Town Council on Wednesday recognized former Councilman Gerald Shaw, who recently passed away, Mayor Daniel A. Murphy said.

Murphy said a plaque will be given to Shaw's family on behalf of the Town Council.

In addition to serving on the council, Murphy said Shaw spent time with the Hancock Rescue Squad and the Hancock Fire Co.

Assembly issues proclamation to town

HANCOCK - The town of Hancock received a proclamation from the Maryland General Assembly on April 4, Mayor Daniel A. Murphy said.

The town received the recognition in honor of its 150th anniversary as an incorporated town.

The town was incorporated in 1853 and held its first municipal election in April 1854, Murphy said.

Visitors Center opens at Town Hall

HANCOCK - Hancock Town Manager Larry Logan said the town's Visitors Center opened last week.

The center is at Town Hall. Logan said the center will be open from noon to 4 p.m. on weekdays.


Fire Co. carnival to be held at park

HANCOCK - The Hancock Town Council voted Wednesday to allow the Hancock Fire Co. to use Widmeyer Memorial Park for the fire company's carnival.

The carnival will be held from June 3-7.
