City to join veterans in tribute to troops

April 10, 2003|by SCOTT BUTKI

The City of Hagerstown Wednesday announced that plans for a city-organized tribute for troops on Friday have been canceled.

Instead, the city will participate in a larger rally in support of the troops scheduled for April 19 at the Clarion Inn and Conference Center, city spokeswoman Karen Giffin said.

The April 19 rally is being sponsored by AMVETS Post 10 and other veteran organizations that are members of the Washington County Joint Veterans Council, she said.

Plans for the event are being developed and more details will be announced next week, Wayne Taylor, a representative of the Joint Veterans Council, said Wednesday.

"The City of Hagerstown is pleased to combine efforts with the veterans' organizations," Giffin said.

"We believe that more citizens will be able to participate in the April 19, 2003, rally since it will be held on a Saturday and a larger number of organizations will be part of the agenda," she said.
