Police apprehend man after chase
FREDERICK, Md. - Police surrounded a field for nearly two hours Thursday before apprehending a man who jumped out of his car and fled after a chase, the Frederick County Sheriff's Department said.
At about 4 p.m., Brunswick Police Chief Clark Price tried to stop a gray Isuzu sport utility vehicle at U.S. 340 and Md. 180. The vehicle sped away on Md. 17, reaching speeds up to 100 mph, police said.
Price lost track of the SUV, but Cpl. Bill Folden of the Frederick County Sheriff's Department spotted it a few minutes later on U.S. 340. Folden chased the vehicle onto Holter Road where the driver turned onto a farm lane, got out and ran, police said.
Sheriff's deputies, state troopers, a state police helicopter and a police dog and handler searched for the driver. They eventually arrested Robert Campbell Jones, 38, of New Market, Md., at Holter Road and Cherry Lane and charged him with fleeing and eluding and driving while suspended.
Police said Jones was wanted on warrants from Montgomery County and the City of Frederick.
He was being held on $60,000 bond late Friday at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
