Alexander sparkles, rest of Suns fall flat

April 07, 2003

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Suns got a double and a home run from Kevin Alexander, but the rest of the offense could muster only three hits as Hagerstown dropped the third game of its season 7-2 to the Greensboro Bats on Saturday.

Suns starter Clay Hensley lasted only 3 1/3 innings. He hit a rough patch in the second, giving up a run on a single by Patrick Arlis.

The big blow was a three-run homer by Robert Word in the bottom of the third that made it 5-0.

Alexander hit a 1-0 fastball over the left field fence to get the Suns on the board in the top of the seventh.

The Bats stretched their lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the eighth with back-to-back homers off reliever Troy Ransom.

The Suns capped the scoring with Carlos Sosa's RBI single in the top of the ninth.

Sosa's single scored Aaron Hornostaj and moved Derin McMains to third, but Randy Walter flied out to center to end the threat.
