John L. Green


John L. Green, 50, of 331 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 9, 1953, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Magdalene Phyllis Kline Green of Hagerstown and the late Roy William Green.

He was employed by AMVETS Post 10 and by London Fog in Boonsboro for 22 years.

He was a member of Trinity Bible Church.

He was a member of Sons of the American Legion, William Clopper Post 10 of Boonsboro and Sons of the AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Peggy A. Lum Green; four stepsons, Todd L. Hawks of Louisville, Ky., Gregory A. Hawks and Randy L. Hawks, both of Cumberland, Md., and Ricky L. Hawks of Hagerstown; three sisters, Rebecca E. Lang of Sharpsburg, Ruth V. Carpenter of Marlowe, W.Va., and Joyce A. Green of Ohio; two brothers, Robert L. Green of Boonsboro and Jacob W. Green Sr. of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; aunts; uncles; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Jeraldine E. Buttons; a brother, Roy R. Green Sr.; two grandsons; and a great-grandson.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown. Captains Butch Mallard and Todd L. Hawks will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Helen R. Shank


QUINCY, Pa. - Helen Rowe Shank, 77, of Quincy United Methodist Home and formerly of 48 Brian Drive, Greencastle, Pa., and Providence Place of Chambersburg, Pa., died Thursday, April 3, 2003 at the nursing home.

Born June 27, 1925, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Lloyd Sr. and Ruth Mace Rowe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George M. Shank, on Dec. 23, 1977.

She was a 1943 graduate of Greencastle High School.

She was a homemaker and previously worked as secretary from 1944 to 1953 for the late Harry Grove, who was principal of the Greencastle School System.

She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle.

She was a member of the Greencastle Loyal Daughters.

She is survived by a sister, Jane R. Pool of Greencastle; two brothers, Lloyd M. "Sonny" Rowe Jr. and Jeffrey L. Rowe, both of Greencastle; and four nephews.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle. The Rev. Martin H. Horn will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Sunday.




Thomas N. Paulson


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Thomas Newton Paulson, 22, of Martinsburg, died Friday, April 4, 2003, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Born March 3, 1981, in Hagerstown, he was the son of John and Penny Clayberg Paulson of Greencastle, Pa.

He was the owner and operator of Computerworkz and a local disc jockey.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Courtney Shanahan Paulson; a sister, Sarai Kathleen Hall of Hedgesville, W.Va.; grandparents David Clayberg of Greencastle and Paul D. and Malissa E. Paulson of Hagerstown; five aunts; six uncles; and cousins.

Services and burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.




Jordan A. Kling


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Jordan Alexander Kling, infant son of Jeff and Robin Dowlin Kling of 640 Mickey Inn Road, died at birth Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Hershey Medical Center.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Cheyenne Kling, and a half brother, Justin Kling, both of Chambersburg.

Graveside services will be Friday, April 11, at 1 p.m. at Harbaugh Church Cemetery in Rouzerville, Pa. The Rev. Charles Kind will officiate.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.




Mary J. Crawford


HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Mary Jo Crawford, 73, of Harpers Ferry, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at her home.

Born Oct. 13, 1929, in Oneida, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Chauncey J. and Mary Anita Parkison Curry.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward W. Crawford, in 1983.

She retired from the banking industry.

She was a Methodist.

She is survived by two daughters, Lucinda Gianiny and Jody Crawford, both of Springfield, Va.; a son, Edward W. Crawford Jr. of Falls Church, Va.; a sister, Margaret Huff of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. Kent Tice will officiate. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

There will be no visitation.




Scott A. Doyle Sr.


Scott Allen Doyle Sr., 36, of 7 E. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at his home.

Born Feb. 6, 1967, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Charles S. Doyle of Hagerstown and Betty Ann Carpenter Towns of Hagerstown.

He was a 1986 graduate of South Hagerstown High School.
