HCC 6-6, Allegany 2-2


Chris Anderson went 2-for-3 with a three-run double and Paul Conway hit a two-run double in the first inning to put Hagerstown Community College on top in the first game of a doubleheader sweep of Allegany Community College.

Matt Bellon pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run and striking out five.

In the nightcap, Tim Biser and Colby Rickabaugh pitched three perfect innings of relief to seal the win for the Hawks (14-5-1). Nick Wenger hit a two-run single in the sixth to break open a tie game, and Devin Ewell had two hits and an RBI.

Shepherd 13-1, Salem International 0-0


SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Mike Spry's walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Shepherd College to victory in game two and helped the Rams sweep Salem International in a West Virginia Conference doubleheader.

Brian Renner scattered five hits in six innings to record his fifth win of the year in game one. He had eight strikeouts and allowed only two walks. Charlie Drummond struck out the side in the seventh to nail down the win.

Joe Cook led the Rams with a 4-for-4 effort with four RBI. Tavis Laws added three hits, while Spry, Drummond, and Josh Delawder each had a two hits. Laws, Spry and Drummond all homered.

J.R. Fitzwater, a Hedgesville graduate, allowed five hits while recording 11 strikeouts in the nightcap, with Spry's homer carrying the Rams (9-11, 3-1) to victory.




MEN'S GOLF



HCC wins opener


Hagerstown Community College won its season opener 318-356 over the College of Southern Maryland at Black Rock.

HCC's John Sanicola shot a 77 on the par-72 course to take medalist honors.

Shepherd eighth in WVC tourney


PIPESTEM, W.Va. - David Bradshaw shot 72-71 for a 1-under total of 143 at Pipestem State Park to win individual honors and led Shepherd College to an eighth-place finish at the West Virginia Conference Southern Region Tournament.

Shepherd finished with 630 points. Champion Ohio Valley finished with 590.

Bradshaw's 71 tied for the lowest 18-hole score of the tournament with West Virginia Wesleyan's Frank Heddrick.
