Area roundup - Barnhart lifts Blazers over Applemen

PREP BASEBALL



INWOOD, W.Va. - Josh Barnhart hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to break a 1-1 and lift Clear Spring to a 2-1 victory over host Musselman on Tuesday.

Barnhart drove in the other Blazers run with a double in the first. Mike Hamby claimed his first victory of the year for Clear Spring (2-0) with a five-strikeout, two-walk performance.

South Hagerstown 9 FSK 5


South Hagerstown used the long ball to down FSK in a Monocacy Valley Athletic League game.

Senior Mike Campbell and junior David Miner each had two home runs for South (3-1), all coming back-to-back in the second and sixth innings. Campbell also singled and Miner drove in three runs.

Martinsburg 10 St. Maria Goretti 0


Keith Holton shut down St. Maria Goretti (2-3) with a three-hit shutout, striking out six and walking one.

Jared Spataro gave Martinsburg the only run it needed with a first-inning solo homer, his first of three hits.

Shalom Christian 18 CVCS 0


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Simon Henry blanked CVCS over three innings and Shalom rolled to an easy season-opening victory. Henry struck out six and also hit a home run.

St. John's-PH 13 St. James 1


ST. JAMES - Ryan Blizzard pitched four innings, striking out six and walking three to gain the victory for St. John's-Prospect Hall as the Vikings defeated St. James.

Ryan Murray had two hits and two RBI and Danny Butala added two doubles for St. John's (5-2).

Kellen Selligman had an RBI single for St. James (0-1).

Jamie Fowler had three hits of her own as she struck out five and walked four in a loss for South Hagerstown (0-4).

NEW KINGSTON, Pa. - Mandi Bittinger threw a three-hitter with five strikeouts, and the Trojans scored twice in the fourth inning without getting a hit in a shutout victory over Cumberland Valley on Monday night.

Twigg signs with Elon


St. James School's Brock Twigg has signed a letter of intent to play football at Elon (N.C.) College this fall.

Twigg, a 6-foot-5, 270-pound senior, will play defensive line at Elon, according to St. James coach Daryl Hayes.

Twigg is a two-time All-Mid Atlantic Conference selection and All-Washington County pick and received All-State honorable mention as a senior.

Rams make changes to softball schedule


Shepherd College has announced changes to its softball schedule.

The Rams' doubleheader against Alderson-Broaddus, originally scheduled for April 19, has been changed to April 16 at 3 p.m. at Charlotte Prather Field in Martinsburg. The doubleheader against Salem International has been moved to April 8 at 2 p.m. at Shepherd.
