Melvin E. McGowan


BOONSBORO - Melvin Ellsworth McGowan, 91, formerly of 18635 Carolyn St. in Hagerstown, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born July 12, 1911, in Dargan, he was the son of the late Thomas and Ella Pierce McGowan.

His wife, Alice Kline McGowan, died in 1970.

He retired in 1975 after 37 years with Fairchild Aircraft Corp.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

He is survived by nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Loretta Eichelberger, Gertrude West and Eleanor McGowan; and one brother, Wilson McGowan.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Patricia Drake will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Raymond C. Terrill


MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Raymond Clifford Terrill, 44, of 9606 Frostown Road, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.

Born April 2, 1959, in Prince Frederick, Md., he was the son of LaVerne C. Terrill of Woodsboro, Md., and Mary Edelen King of Orange City, Fla.

He was employed as a drywall finisher by J&M Drywall Inc. in Myersville, Md.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his fiance, Sharon K. Shaff; one daughter, Christine R. Terrill, at home; one sister, Linda L. Remsburg of Frederick; and one brother, Tony L. Terrill of Calvert County, Md.

Graveside services will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Boonsboro Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro.




Sandra J. Cashdollar


Sandra Jean Cashdollar, 58, of 608 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Feb. 16, 1945, in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of the late William and Mabel Stain Hershberger.

She was employed by Locust Point Deli.

She is survived by her husband, Earl G. Cashdollar; two nephews; and one cousin.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Gina Avey.

A memorial service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Cherie Baker will officiate.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Larry C. Smith


BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Larry C. Smith, 49, of Berkeley Springs, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Suburban Hospital in Rockville, Md.

Born April 2, 1954, in Damascus, Md., he was the son of David Clark Smith of McDowell, Va., and the late Shirley Ann Beall Smith.

He was a construction worker for Smith and Sons in Monrovia, Va. He owned and operated Woodview Nursery in Berkeley Springs.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He was a member of DeFord Masonic Lodge 88 A.F. & A.M. of Berkeley Springs and Scottish Rite Free Masonry 32nd Degree of Martinsburg, W.Va.; FFA Alumni and the Liberty Town (Md.) Volunteer Fire Department.

He was a supervisor of the Eastern Panhandle Soil Conservation District, vice chairman of National Watershed Coalition, chairman of North Eastern National Association of Conservation Districts, a former member of Morgan County Planning Commission and Morgan County Economic Development Authority, and past president of the Morgan County Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Laura S. Smith of Berkeley Springs; one daughter, Danelle Smith of Berkeley Springs; two sons, Kevin Smith and Steven Smith, both of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Gary L. Smith of Kemptown, Md.; and two nephews.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs.

Burial will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Monterey Cemetery, Monterey, Va.

The family will receive friends Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Benjamin M. Davis


Benjamin Morgan Davis, 84, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Sept. 27, 1918, in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Beulah Ridenour Davis.

He owned produce and grocery businesses, including Bargain Town USA at Huyetts Crossroads. He dealt in antiques.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by one daughter, Sandra L. Davis; two sisters, Mildred Raymer and Dorothy Saunders; and two brothers, Gerald Davis and Perry Davis, all of Hagerstown.
