Frederick man dies in U.S. 40 crash

FREDERICK, Md. - The driver of a 2002 Dodge van traveling from Bowers Road across U.S. 40 Monday afternoon pulled into the path of an oncoming 1994 Ford Ranger and died of injuries from the accident, Maryland State Police in Frederick said.

William E. Myer, 69, of Frederick, was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital shortly after the 12:55 p.m. accident. He later was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the Ranger, Gerald Stevens, 34, also of Frederick, was uninjured, police said.

Trooper 1st Class Brian Blubaugh said the van flipped over.

Ice and a dusting of snow Monday morning caused several other accidents on the interstates in Washington County but police said the injuries weren't serious.

One person was taken to Washington County Hospital after an accident at Interstate 70 and Md. 66 shortly before 6:30 a.m., according to Washington County Emergency Services.

Another accident was reported at 6:47 a.m. at I-81 and Maugans Avenue, according to emergency services.
