Roundup - Rose paces HCC at opener

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Hagerstown Community College's Jerry Rose placed second in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes Saturday, as the Hawks opened their outdoor track & field season at the Susquehanna Invitational.

Rose clocked times of 10.88 and 22.10 seconds.

HCC also got second-place efforts from Andrew Morgan in the 400 (49.67) and Ike Cartledge in the 800 (1:59.30).

On the women's side, Carmisha Williams took second in the 200 in 26.76 for the Hawks, while Carrie Hartman took eighth in the 400 in 1:03.00.

At the Raleigh Relays on Friday, HCC's Ryan Davis placed 13th in the 10,000 in 32:43.


Rams even record

SALEM, Va. - Shepherd College evened its record at 2-2 with a pair of wins at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament. The Rams beat Glenville State 3-2 and Mountain State University, 7-5.

Shepherd rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning against Glenville State, getting two RBI from Brooke Small and one from Sara Rosboschil. Megan Hall (1-0) scattered seven hits and struck out three in the win.


Mary Krafton had three hits and Rosboschil had two, as the Rams downed Mountain State. Rams starter Karan Burnette (1-1) went the distance for the win.


Southern Virginia 7 Shepherd 5

LEXINGTON, Va. - Paul Lawrence and B.J. Hanley both had three-run homers, and Nate Sharp added a solo shot as Southern Virginia edged Shepherd.

Shane Wines had three hits, including a double, and Mike Spry and Joe Crook added two hits a piece to lead the Rams (7-11).


Hedgesville 7, Socastee 6

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Trey Hockman hit a bases-loaded single in the top of the sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie and the Eagles survived a Socastee scare in the bottom half of the inning to get the win in the Hawaiian Tropic Classic.

Matt Bartgis had two hits and an RBI for the Eagles (1-4).

Berkeley Springs 10 St. Maria Goretti 7

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Matt Dixon led Berkeley Springs (1-3) with three hits while Arthur Fischer added two hits and scored two runs.

Kevin Brashears had two hits and Phil Dorsey had two RBI for St. Maria Goretti (1-3).

Spartanburg 14, Jefferson 5

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - David Smith went 2-for-4 for Jefferson (6-3), as the Cougars fell to Spartanburg in the championship game at the Hawaiian Tropic Classic.


North 11, SJPH 7

Rachel Valentine and Kelly Salvagno each scored three goals to lead North Hagerstown past St. John's at Prospect Hall.

Hanna Harding added two goals, and Carly Handler had 11 saves for the Hubs.


Registration set for legion baseball

Williamsport Legion and Williamsport Junior Legion will begin its baseball registration this week for players ages 15-19.

Registration will be at the Williamsport American Legion home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and April 9 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Players must bring a copy of their birth certificate.
