SECURITY - When Creekside Inn owner Marty Henicle returned to his Security Road business Tuesday afternoon after a game of golf, he saw two men looking at the back of a car sticking out of nearby Antietam Creek.
Rescuers converged on the site, concerned that someone might be inside the submerged car. It soon became apparent that the red Kia Sephia had been abandoned in the creek.
"The car was reported stolen earlier Tuesday from the 600 block of South Potomac Street," said Sgt. David Long of Hagerstown City Police.
Graffiti had been painted on the car, police said.
"No divers were sent into the water," said Community Rescue Service Chief Chris Amos. "It turned into a recovery of an abandoned vehicle."
