Weekend fire damages 200-year-old area home

WILLIAMSPORT - Damage has been set at $150,000 in a two-alarm fire Saturday afternoon that roared through a 200-year-old home at 153 N. Conococheague St., displacing seven people.

Investigators from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's office have ruled the fire accidental, saying it began in the attic area around the chimney.

The fire at the two-story stone home, which had been converted into two apartment units, was spotted around 4:22 p.m. Saturday by a passer-by.

No one was injured in the blaze.

Christopher Seth Anderson, 19, of 30 E. Frederick St., Williamsport, was charged with first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment. He was released after posting $5,000 bond, deputies said.

Deputy First Class Michael Palladino responded to a home in the first block of East Church Street in Williamsport Saturday at 4:13 p.m. where he contacted an 11-year-old boy who said he had been shot in the hand.

Palladino said the child's hand was bleeding slightly and his knuckles were swollen.

His injuries were not believed serious enough for medical attention, a spokesman at the sheriff's department said Sunday.

The child told the deputy he could identify the person who shot him and it was someone he knew. Anderson was contacted and then taken into custody, deputies said.
