Suns to hold tryouts for national anthem

Do you want to sing for the Suns?

The Hagerstown Suns will hold open tryouts for the singing of the national anthem at Valley Mall in Halfway on Saturday, April 5.

Registration for all participants will begin at 9 a.m. in the Valley Mall food court, and the auditions will begin at 10 a.m.

The auditions, which are sponsored by the Hagerstown Suns and WAYZ 104.7 FM, are open to those ages 5 and older. More than one winner will be selected in each of three groups - ages 5 to 10, ages 11 to 18, and ages 19 and older, with 60 winners to be selected. All winners will sing the national anthem before a Suns home game this season.

At the tryouts, participants may sing the national anthem either a cappella (without music) or with background music. However, the national anthem at Municipal Stadium must be sung a cappella. Singers are permitted to try out individually or in groups. If a singer is younger than 18, he or she must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Show Kids auditions slated for April 5

Auditions will be held Saturday, April 5, for area youth to perform with the Washington County Show Kids and Show Co. Opportunities are available for young performers of all ages to sing, act or dance.

Performers will participate in the annual variety show to be held in June at Hagerstown Community College's Kepler Theater. For audition information, contact Director Brenda Cauffman at 301-733-1833.
