Richard E. Coss


Richard E. Coss, 85, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Feb. 11, 1918, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Frank Alvin and Margaret E. Ridenour Coss.

He worked as a mechanical engineer for 10 years for New York Central Iron Works and for 37 years with Pangborn Corp., retiring in 1987.

He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he sang in the senior choir.

He was a member of Southern Engineering Society, Potomac Playmakers, Hagerstown Model Railroad Club, was co-president of North Potomac Middle School PTA and served with Washington County Council of Churches.

He is survived by his wife, Betty R. Coss; one son, Robert W. Coss of Frederick, Md.; two daughters, Cathleen A. Coss of Baltimore, and Carolyn A. Klein of Chambersburg, Pa.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Alice R. Coss.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. Ed Heim will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Prince of Peace Chapel at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.




Ivan P. Barnhart Jr.


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ivan P. "Bud" Barnhart Jr., 80, of 327 Stouffer Ave., died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Penn Hall Nursing Center in Chambersburg.

Born Aug. 18, 1922, in Cearfoss, he was the son of the late Ivan P. Barnhart Sr. and Bernice Lizer Barnhart.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen M. Churchheus Barnhart, in 2000. They were married in 1945.

He was employed by Singer Sewing Center in Chambersburg and Schaff's Mobile Home Center in Fayetteville, Pa. He owned and operated Barnhart Mobile Homes Center in Marion, Pa., retiring in 1992.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 600 and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 842, both of Chambersburg; and Eagle's Club of Waynesboro.

He is survived by three sons, Dennis L. Barnhart of Chambersburg, Robert T. Barnhart of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Steven K. Barnhart of Lancaster, Pa.; three granddaughters; four grandsons; three great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Barnhart.

A graveside service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg, with a military service by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. The Rev. Jeffrey R. Diller will officiate.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Wendy S. Gaither


WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Wendy Sue Gaither, infant daughter of Wendy Shawn Fowler and Ronald Eugene "Ronnie" Gaither of 13277 Midvale Road, died Monday, March 17, 2003, at Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 6, 2003, at Waynesboro Hospital.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by two brothers, James A. Brooks and Jeremiah A. Gaither, both at home; two stepbrothers, Ronnie Gaither and Derek Gaither, both of Hancock; maternal grandparents, Raymond and Karen Lineweaver Swisher of Waynesboro; and maternal great-grandmother, Maxine Frock Lineweaver of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Bernard and Alice Youngblood Gaither.

Private services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematorium, Waynesboro.




Dorothy L. Jensen


MYERSVILLE, Md. - Dorothy Louise Jensen, 95, of 2 Harp Place, and formerly of Saddle River, N.J., died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at the home of her daughter, Mary L. Miller of Myersville.

Born April 25, 1907, in Climax, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Judson William and Elma Jane Hoover Pierce.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto G. Jensen, in 1983.

She received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Western Michigan State Teacher's College.

She taught first and second grade.

She was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Myersville. She had been a member of West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood, N.J.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary L. Miller of Myersville; and one son, Robert A. Jensen of Carbondale, Ill.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Merna B. Pierce, Eleta Taylor and Bethel Ebinger.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Myersville. The Rev. Theodore Higby will officiate.

Burial will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Prairie Home Cemetery, Climax. The Rev. Sue Babb will officiate.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, Myersville.
