Gray leads area women in Shamrock

RUNNING



VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Susan Graham Gray, 34, of Greencastle, Pa., was the second overall female Saturday at the Shamrock Marathon.

Gray clocked a time of 2 hours, 57 minutes - 17:11 behind winner Stacie Alboucrek, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and 27 seconds ahead of third-place finisher Heather Davis, of Raleigh, N.C.

In the Shamrock 8K, also Saturday, Maria Spinnler, 41, of Hagerstown, was the seventh female overall in 28:54. She was the second American and fourth masters runner. She took home $350.

Greg Sellers, 47, of Boonsboro, placed 23rd overall in the marathon in 2:53:44. He placed eighth in the masters division.

HCC goes 1-2 at Invite


WALDORF, Md. - Hagerstown Cimmunity College defeated Beaver County and lost to Anne Arundel and Delaware Tech during the College of Southern Maryland Invitational this weekend to open the Hawks' season.

Ashley Palmer struck out five and Adrianne Mallow drove in two runs in the 3-2 victory over Beaver County.

Amanda McGhee went 3-for-3, Trish Douglas was 2-for-3 and Mallow went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the 6-4 loss to Tech.
