Dickson, Stroech win pageants in W.Va.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Devon Dickson was crowned Miss Jefferson County and Jessica Stroech was crowned Miss Shenandoah Saturday night at Wright Denny Intermediate School.

Dickson, 23, is a student at Hagerstown Business College. She is the daughter of Barbara Leonard and John Dickson of Martinsburg, W.Va.

Stroech, 20, is a sophomore at West Virginia University. She is the daughter of Kenneth and Sandra Stroech of Kearneysville, W.Va.

Both received $2,500 scholarships, a $500 Shepherd College scholarship and the chance to participate in the Miss West Virginia Scholarship Pageant in June in Clarksburg, W.Va.


Ten contestants competed for the crowns.

First runner-up was Whitney Whitaker, 19, a sophomore at University of South Carolina. She received a $1,200 scholarship. She is the daughter of Charles and Brenda Whitaker of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.

Megan Hairston, 18, was second runner-up. The daughter of Earl Ray and Virginia Hairston of Martinsburg, W.Va., she received an $800 scholarship.

The $200 Kevin Johnson memorial award for the nonfinalist talent winner went to Nicole Johnson. A 17-year-old senior at Martinsburg High School, she is the daughter of Marshall and Patricia Timmof Martinsburg, W.Va.

There was a three-way tie for the $200 Gilbert C. Mobley nonfinalist interview award. The award was shared by Lisa DeGrave, a junior at Shepherd College; Alyson Benton, a student at Shenandoah University; and Jessica Morrison, a senior at Hedgesville High School.

Each nonfinalist received a $200 scholarship.
