Glenwood R. French

WILLIAMSPORT - Glenwood Riley "Jack" French, 70, of Mosby Drive, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at his home.

Born April 14, 1932, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late James Riley and Carrie Catherine Toms French.

He worked on the Western Maryland Railroad for 10 years. He was employed by Washington County as a bus driver for the County Commuter, retiring in 1995.

He served as mayor of Williamsport from 1981 to 1985, and served three terms as councilman from 1969 to 1980.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of Calvary Temple in Williamsport.

He was a member of Potomac Post 202 American Legion in Williamsport, and Maverick Pine Hunt Club in Bedford, Pa., serving as past president.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia L. Drake French; five sisters, Mildred French and Mary Ruth Conway, both of Cumberland, Md., Doris Horine and Shirley Cline, both of Hagerstown, and Hilda Myers of Williamsport; four brothers, Wayne French and Fred French, both of Williamsport, Harold French and Paul E. French, both of Hagerstown; nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Myers; and two brothers, Leon French and Donald J. French Sr.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport. The Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery with military services by Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at noon.
