Allegheny explains meeting delay

March 11, 2003

Allegheny Energy officials said Monday they have postponed the utility's annual shareholders' meeting so they can finish a comprehensive review of the financial statements.

A date has not been set for the annual meeting, which was scheduled for May 8. The meeting will be held after the company issues its annual report for 2002, Allegheny spokeswoman Debbie Beck said.

Beck said she couldn't speculate on when the company would release the annual report.

Company officials have said they will restate financial statements for the first and second quarters of 2002 after errors were found.

Financial information for the first three quarters of 2002 also will be released.
