John A. Nethen

GLEN BURNIE, Md. - John A. "Jack" Nethen, 76, of Glen Burnie, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, Md.

Born July 3, 1926, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Adolph F. and Ruth Halfpenny Nethen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Gathercole Nethen-Belcher.

He owned Claude Neon Signs Inc.

He served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during World War II.

He was a member of Milford Mill United Methodist Church, Pikesville, Md.

He was past president and served on the board of directors for the Advertising Club of Baltimore and the Maryland Sign Association and the Eastern State Sign Council.

He is survived by one daughter, Claire Hetrick of Ellicott City, Md.; two sons, Jan F. Nethen of Whiteford, Md., and Gary K. Nethen of Manchester, Md.; two sisters, Anna L. Fuller of Wakefield, Kan., and Bonnie Howatt of Pasadena, Md.; two brothers, Robert Nethen of Ocean Pines, Md., and Alan Nethen of Pasadena; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.


A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Chapelgate Presbyterian Church, Marriottsville, Md. The Rev. Newton B. Hetrick will officiate. Burial will be private.

Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, Sykesville, Md.
