GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Joanne Catherine Beahm Witmer, 57, of 130 Oak Lane, died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at her home, following a four-year battle with brain cancer.

Born July 29, 1945, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of Hazel C. Bivens Beahm of Greencastle and the late J. Charles Beahm.

She was a 1963 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School and received her license in practical nursing from Chambersburg Vo-Tech School of Practical Nursing in 1964.

She was a homemaker, had been employed as a receptionist for a Waynesboro State Farm Insurance agent, worked as a private duty nurse and as a substitute instructional aide for the Greencastle-Antrim School District.


She had been a member of Greencastle Church of the Brethren, the Sonlighters Sunday School class, sang in the choir and started God's Angels Children's Ministry. She was a member of Antrim Brethren in Christ Church near Greencastle, sang in the choir and was a member of Ambassadors Sunday School class.

She was a member of Greencastle Homemakers, Greencastle-Antrim Women's Fellowship and AARP.

She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Witmer, whom she married Dec. 20, 1964; one daughter, Chris Witmer of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two sons, Robert Witmer Jr. of Palo Alto, Calif., and Scott Witmer of Jacksonville, N.C.; one sister, Joyce Stuller of Shade Gap, Pa.; one grandson; and eight nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle. The Rev. Ky R. Searcy will officiate. Private graveside services will be in Shank's Church of the Brethren Cemetery near Greencastle.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
