George R. Nowell

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - George R. Nowell, 90, of Penn Hall Nursing Center, and formerly of 15757 Clearview Ave., State Line, Pa., died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at the nursing center.

Born July 21, 1912, in State Line, he was the son of the late John Wesley and Florence M. Izer Nowell.

He was a machinist for Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown for 38 years.

He was a member of Calvary Grace Brethren Church of Hagerstown.

He was a member of Greencastle (Pa.) AARP Chapter 3025, Interstate Coin Club of Hagerstown, Fairchild Retirees Club, Mason Dixon Historical Society of State Line and State Line Ruritan Club.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalie B. Byers Nowell, of Penn Hall Nursing Center, whom he married June 4, 1938; one daughter, Marjorie Ann Decker of Greencastle; one son, John Olin Nowell of Southport, N.C.; one brother, William E. Nowell of Scranton, Pa.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary E. Mason, Ida F. Leidig and Gladys I. Rudisill; and three brothers, Charles Nowell, Harold G. Nowell and Ralph C. Nowell.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle. Chaplain Robert E. Keener will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
