BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Lester Reed Somers, 86, of Berkeley Springs and Dundalk, Md., died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at his home in Dundalk.

Born Dec. 17, 1916, in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of the late Austin Flint and Kathryn Johnson Somers.

He attended public schools in Morgan County, W.Va.

He retired as an electrician from Bethlehem Steel in Sparrows Point, Md.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church at Spohrs Crossroads in Berkeley Springs.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Gertrude Hovermale Somers; one daughter, Diane L. Middleton of Dundalk; one sister, Eileen Householder of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Glenwood Somers of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Keith W. Somers; two sisters, Mida Kesecker and Alma Hovermale; and five brothers, Harold Somers, Wolford Somers, Cletus Somers, Bernard Somers and Paul Somers.


Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs. Clarence McDowell will officiate. Burial will by in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery in Berkeley Springs, with graveside military honors by Tri-State Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery Association, 5594 Martinsburg Road, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
