Sagittarius Salon and Sanctuary Spa

Marsha Knicley-Masood, owner of Sagittarius Salon and Sanctuary Spa, received the 2002 Charitable Outreach Award from The Salon Association, an organization for salon owners.

The award was for helping others, dedicating time and resources to those in need and making the world a better place.

Knicley-Masood and salon manager Pam May recently attended classes in Alexandria, Va., at the Aveda East Educational Center.

Specialized Communications

Specialized Communications Inc., a broadcast video equipment engineering and repair facility in Hagerstown, has announced the following new employees:

Francis C. Campbell of Hagerstown and Michael J. Trowbridge of Chewsville have been hired as engineers.

Justin C. Sattazahn of Shippensburg, Pa., was hired as product specialist.

Karen E. Cooksey of Chambersburg, Pa., is the company's assistant product specialist/programmer.

Judy L. Hoffman of Williamsport has filled the position of marketing coordinator in September 2002.

Roxbury Correctional Institution

Correctional officers Richard Hult, Brian Kauffman Jerry Ridge and Keith Spielman are Roxbury Correctional Institution's Employees of the Month for February.


Hult, Kauffman, Ridge, and Spielman were selected as a result of their immediate response to an incident in Housing Unit No. 3 between two inmates. One inmate was attacked with a homemade weapon and hot water was thrown on him. The officers' quick response in bringing the incident under control resulted in the prevention of further injury to the inmate.

Kelly Services

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Chip Johnson has been named account representative for Kelly Services in Chambersburg.

Johnson will be responsible for business growth in the Chambersburg market.

Blondy & Co. Hair and Nail Salon

Christine Smith, owner and operator of Blondy & Co. Hair and Nail Salon, and stylist Elizabeth Hutzell updated their certification with "Biolonics," a Japanese hair straightening system.

Shannan Olszewski, Kelly Wynkoop, Julie Barr, Elizabeth Hutzell, Toni Ruiz and Christine Smith recently attended an Aquage class in the salon. The educator, Donna Varady, demonstrated many formal hairstyles for proms and weddings.

FedEx Express

Marshall W. Branch has been promoted to operations manager at FedEx Express, overseeing A.M. sort and on-road operations for the Hagerstown station.

Branch has been with the Express division for 15 years.

Food Resources

Lynn Jackson of Hagerstown has been promoted to director of operations of Food Resources.

Jackson has been employed at Food Resources as operations manager since March 1995.

Smith Elliott Kearns & Co.

Terry Shoemaker-Kreit of Smith Elliott Kearns & Co. LLC has completed the requirements to be licensed by the Maryland State Board of Accountancy as a certified public accountant.

Shoemaker-Kreit joined the firm in 1998 and is a senior associate in the Audit Department in Hagerstown.

Farmers & Merchants Bank and Trust

ANNAPOLIS - James G. Piern of Hagerstown, chairman, president and CEO of Farmers & Merchants Bank and Trust, has been selected for the Leadership Maryland Class of 2003.

Leadership Maryland is an independent, educational, nonprofit organization designed to inform executives from the public and private sectors about the critical issues, challenges and opportunities facing Maryland.

Piern is one of 50 statewide leaders selected to participate in the eight-month program.

Leadership Maryland is one of 34 state leadership programs nationwide.

Washington County Health Department

Stacey Hornbecker has been selected Employee of the Month for March at the Washington County Health Department.

Hornbecker is an office services clerk with the Nursing Division and has been employed by the health department since October 1997.

Richard Wayne Powell

Richard Wayne Powell, MD, has been selected by the Consumers' Research Council of America in Washington for inclusion in the first edition of "Guide to America's Top Psychiatrists."

The selection process is based on a system that awards points for education, medical board certifications, years in practice and affiliations with professional associations.

Powell recently moved to Hagerstown.
