CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Colleen Hooe Stokes, 77, of Charles Town, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.

Born Jan. 4, 1926, in Ranson, she was the daughter of the late Annie Ramey and Frank Hooe.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, S. Robert Stokes.

She was a 1944 graduate of Charles Town High School.

She was co-owner, along with her husband, of the Haven Store from 1957 to 1975. She was a distributor along with her husband for The Washington Post, The Journal and The Baltimore Sun for many years.

She was a Presbyterian.

She was a member of the Historical Society, past president and member of West Virginia United Daughters of Confederacy.

She is survived by two daughters, Colleen D. Roberts and Kelley S. Watson; three sons, Stephan R. Stokes, Calvin S. Stokes and Samuel F. Stokes; one sister, Esther R. Kirk; one brother, Robert Hooe; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by one daughter, Paula J. Crane; and one sister, Joyce A. Toston.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson. The Rev. Richard Neal will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
