HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Dorothy "Granny" Popkins Poston, 83, of Shannondale, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.

Born June 2, 1919, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Lacy and Susieanna Mills Hough.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles W. Popkins, and her second husband, Clifford L. Poston.

She attended Mission Tabernacle Church in Harpers Ferry.

She is survived by five daughters, Dorothy Thompson of Leesville, La., Betty Popkins, Peggy Wilson and Nancy Armstrong, all of Harpers Ferry, and Donna Greenwalt of Middleway, W.Va.; three sons, Charles W. Popkins Jr. and James Popkins, both of Harpers Ferry, and Clarence Popkins of Middleway; 28 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Paul W. Popkins; and three brothers, Charles S. Hough, James L. Hough and Delmar H. Hough.


Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Mission Tabernacle Church, Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Lee Strickler will officiate. Burial will be in Murrill Hill Church Yard Cemetery, Harpers Ferry.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va.
