HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - A 16-year-old Halltown, W.Va., youth was listed in fair condition at Washington (D.C.) Hospital Center Sunday after he wrecked a car following a high-speed pursuit Saturday night on Chestnut Hill Road, a police official said.
Harpers Ferry Police Chief Donald Buracker said he approached the teenager's car on Washington Street about 9:07 p.m. Saturday when it quickly accelerated.
Buracker said he activated his emergency lights and chased the car on Washington Street toward Harpers Ferry and onto Union Street.
The suspect's car struck a guardrail at the intersection of Union Street and U.S. 340, then backed up and hit Buracker's cruiser, Buracker said.
