Joseph M. Reeder

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Joseph M. Reeder, 82, of 344 Strickler Ave., died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at his home.

Born Feb. 19, 1921, in Everett, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence Milton and Edna Grace Avey Reeder.

He was a 1939 graduate of Waynesboro High School.

He retired in 1982 after 17 years as an industrial engineer for Grove Manufacturing in Shady Grove, Pa. Earlier, he was a machine apprentice and later an industrial engineer with Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro, and worked for Hess Manufacturing Co. for 10 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Honolulu in the South Pacific during World War II from 1943 to 1945.


He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695 and Eagles Inc., all of Waynesboro.

He was a member of various bowling leagues in the area.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine L. Heller Reeder, whom he married Sept. 19, 1943; three daughters, Joyce A. Nowell, Ellen Davis and Karen Reeder, all of Waynesboro; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Grace Little.

A memorial service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. The Rev. Lynn D. Trutt will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, with military graveside services by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 of Chambersburg.

There will be no public viewing. The family will receive friends Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests the omission of flowers.
