Harriet G. Witherspoon

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Harriet Glass Witherspoon, 88, of Penn Hall, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at Penn Hall.

Born Oct. 8, 1914, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Maybelle Joanna Dixon Glass.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Marlin Witherspoon, in 2000.

She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and later The Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring.

She was a graduate of Chambersburg High School and Wilson College. She received a master's degree in library science from Penn State University.

She taught English and French in the Chambersburg Area School District.

In 1966, she received the Distinguished Teacher Award.

She was an accomplished pianist.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Korenjak of North Plains, Ore. and Margaret O'Sullivan of Las Vegas; one son, John C. Witherspoon of Las Vegas; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.


She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert M. Glass.

Graveside services will be private.
