GLENELG, Md. North Hagerstown's season came to an abrupt, physical end Monday in the 2A West quarterfinals, suffering a 54-44 loss to Glenelg.

The physicality was on the backboards where the Hubs were outrebounded, 49-32 and allowed Glenelg 23 offensive rebounds.

Glenelg (13-7) broke away from a 21-21 tie with a 7-0 run and the halftime lead and never relinquished the lead as North (17-5) battled to within four points with two minutes remaining.

Marshall Branch led North with 15 points, Cole Bellon added 10 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots and Purnell Spruce dished out eight assists and had a team-high nine rebounds.

Brunswick 69, Reginald Lewis 68

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Reginald Lewis fell inches shy of knocking off Brunswick in the Region 1A South quarterfinals when Kyle McCoy sank a shot with his foot on the 3-point line and the Railroaders escaped with a one-point victory.

Jeremey Hueston led Brunswick with 19 points, while Brandon Dykes had 14, Jesse Ault had 12 and Matt Feldman added 11. Hueston grabbed eight rebounds and made five steals in the win for the 'Roaders (14-7).

McCoy finished with a team-high 20 points for Reginald Lewis.

CUMBERLAND, Md. - Allegany hit six 3-pointers in the second quarter to gain an 11-point halftime lead and go on to defeat Williamsport in the Region 1A West quarterfinals.

The Wildcats were able to cut the Allegany lead to five with about five minutes remaining, but lost the momentem to continuous fouls.

The Campers were sent to the free throw line 29 times in a second half in which four Williamsport starters fouled out.

Aaron Laffey led four Allegany scorers in double figures with 21 points. Shane McDade had 18 points, Ian Grady had 14 and Adam Smith added 10.

Nick Adenhart led Williamsport (11-12) with 19 points, Josh Bowers had 12 and Ben Jordan added 10. Jordan and Josh Foley each pulled in six rebounds.

FREDERICK, Md. - Thomas Richard led Thomas Johnson with 17 points, four assists and six steals as the Patriots picked up a 4A East quarterfinal win.

Demetrius Bryant had 14 points and Darnell Edmonds had 10 points with four steals for Thomas Johnson (22-0). Corey Henderson scored 11 points for Arundel (19-4).

FREDERICK, Md. Curtis Crews rammed in 31 points to lead Frederick over South River in a Class 4A East contest.

The Cadets (16-7) started slow and broke away from a 12-12 tie after the first eight minutes and then started the second half with a 13-2 run that produced a 51-point second half.

Crews also added 16 rebounds while Elyon Bush added five steals and seven assists. Craig MacIntyre scored 12 points and also had seven steals.
