The Punts

Thomas and Marie Punt of Smithsburg were honored Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, for their 50th wedding anniversary by their children, grandchildren, relatives and friends at a surprise dinner party at the South Mountain Rod and Gun Club in Smithsburg.

The Punts were married Nov. 15, 1952, at Washington Square United Methodist Church in Hagerstown by Pastor Charles LaFew, now deceased.

Mrs. Punt, the former Marie Shifflett, is a 1951 graduate of the old Hagerstown High School. She retired from Washington County Board of Education.

Mr. Punt is a 1951 graduate of Smithsburg High School. He retired from Brandt Cabinetworks. He worked as a painting contractor and was employed by the town of Smithsburg.


They have three children, Barbara May of Cavetown, Thomas Punt Jr. of Smithsburg and Mark Punt of Westminster, Md. They have six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The Duffeys

Ellis G. Duffey and Peggy J. Duffey celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a party at the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren auditorium. The party was hosted by their four children and spouses, Scott and Becky Duffey, Craig Duffey, Joel and Kathy Duffey and Sue and Bob Wolfe. The Duffeys renewed their wedding vows in a ceremony officiated by their son, Scott. More than 130 guests attended the event.

The Duffeys were married Feb. 5, 1953, by the Rev. Paul M. Robinson.

Mrs. Duffey retired from Lena Darner Boutique where she worked as bookkeeper for 16 years. Earlier, she had been a homemaker for 12 years, then worked for Sears Credit Office for 17 years.

Mr. Duffey retired from M.P. Moller, where he built pipe organs for 44 years. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954.

The Duffeys have entertained with guitar and voice at area nursing homes for the last 25 years and continue to do so.

They have seven grandchildren.
