Commissioners to discuss HR matter

The Washington County Commissioners will meet next Tuesday in closed session to discuss a matter dealing with the Human Resources Department, Commissioners President Gregory I. Snook said Thursday.

The commissioners plan to issue a public statement on their discussion after the meeting, Snook said.

Snook would not elaborate on the matter because it was a personnel issue, he said.

County Attorney Richard Douglas said all department concerns from the public or employees should be directed to Assistant Human Resources Director Dee Hawbaker. Douglas said Human Resources Director Alan Davis was out of the office and would not say when he would return.

When asked Wednesday whether Davis was still the county's human resources director, Snook said, "I need to think about that."

Davis could not be reached for comment Thursday. He did not respond to messages left on his phone at home or at work.

Commissioner John C. Munson declined to comment and referred all questions to County Administrator Rodney Shoop. Shoop could not be reached for comment.

Commissioners Vice President William J. Wivell declined to comment, stating the matter was a personnel issue. He referred all concerns to Douglas.

Commissioners Doris J. Nipps and James F. Kercheval could not be reached for comment.
