Wilma V. Largent


HANCOCK - Wilma V. Unger Largent, 81, of East Main Street, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at her home.

Born Dec. 21, 1921, in Great Cacapon, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Floyd and Cora Edith Dawson Effland.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon Elroy Unger; and by her second husband, Otis W. Largent Sr.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hancock Ward.

She is survived by three daughters, V. Maxine MacIntyre of Hedgesville, W.Va., Carol A. Socks of Hagerstown, and Debra L. Keefer of Hancock; four sons, Larry D. Unger of Amaranth, Pa., Dennis R. Unger of Great Cacapon, W.Va., Phillip D. Unger of Hancock and Kenneth E. Unger of Cumberland, Md.; one stepson, Otis W. Largent Jr. of Baltimore; 20 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary C. Unger; four brothers, Charles F. Effland Jr., Gerald Effland, Odry Effland and Donald Effland; and one granddaughter.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hancock. Bishop Gerald Hendershot will officiate. Burial will be in Buck Valley Christian Cemetery, Warfordsburg, Pa.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock; and Thursday at 10 a.m. at the church. The funeral home will open today at 3 p.m.




Catherine R. Shufelt


Catherine Rentch Shufelt, 80, of 1745 No. 3 Edgewood Hill Circle, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at Julia Manor Health Care Center in Hagerstown.

Born Feb. 14, 1923, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George L. and Rosa McDaniel Rentch.

She was preceded in death by husband, Jack D. Shufelt, in 2000.

She was a member of Morris Frock Post 42 Auxiliary.

She is survived by one daughter, Carol S. McCardell of Falling Waters, W.Va.; one brother, J. Kenneth Rentch of Florence, S.C.; one granddaughter, Denise N. Fagan of Boston; one grandson, Thomas L. McCardell of Hagerstown; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Roxann Beard and Nell Kilmer; and three brothers, Bruce Rentch, Donald Rentch and George Rentch.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. Christopher Moore will be celebrant. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown.




Frank F. Conrad Jr.


WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Frank F. Conrad Jr., 73, of 8795 Gap Road, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003.

Born Dec. 31, 1929, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Frank F. and Beatrice E. Harbaugh Conrad.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elaine Robinson Conrad, in 1990. They were married March 31, 1951.

He was a 1947 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School.

He was employed as an engineer by Pangborn Corp. in Hagerstown for 25 years. He worked for Grove World Wide in Shady Grove, Pa.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro.

He was a member of Waynesboro Fish and Game Club, Blue Ridge Sportsman's Club, American Legion Joe Stickle Post 15, AMVETS, Frank L. Carbaugh Home Association and NRA.

He is survived by one daughter, Jean M. Harshman of Chambersburg, Pa.; one son, Stephen L. Conrad of Florida; one grandson, Travis L. Harshman; and two nieces.

A memorial service will be held later.

Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

Arrangements are by Lochstampfor Funeral Home, Waynesboro.




Darrell L. Kline


Darrell Lee Kline, 72, of 11143 Lakeside Drive, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at his home.

Born Feb. 22, 1931, in Ridgeway, Pa., he was the son of the late Merle R. and Sarah E. Weaver Kline.

He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1969 after 21 years of service.

He was employed by Sheraton Motor Inn, Colton Villa Nursing Home and Maryland Ribbon. He retired in 1993.

He was a member of Moose Lodge 1790 of Mercersburg, Pa.; American Legion Post 373 of Greencastle, Pa.; Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 4426 of Broadtop, Pa.; and Fleet Reserve Association Branch 42 of Annapolis.

He is survived by three daughters, Sherrie L. Kline of Hagerstown, Brenda Papa of Boonsboro, and Sarah West of Little River, S.C.; one sister, Norma J. Vought of Warren, Pa.; his companion of 19 years, Ilene Klomp of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Service and burial will be private. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Ridgeway.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Salvation Army, 534 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Stuart Broadus "Stu" Abraham, 86, of 1135 Luther Drive, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.
