The Blazers (0-17) drew the No. 8 seed in 1A West, and will host No. 9 Westmar on Saturday.
Walkersville's girls (18-1, No. 1 Herald-Mail poll) are the top seed in 2A West, and will host the winner of the first round game between Hamond and Centennial in a quarterfinal next Tuesday.
Middletown's girls (14-2, No. 2 Herald-Mail poll) earned the No. 3 seed in 2A West, and will host the winner of Atholton and Century next Tuesday.
Five other area girls teams will play first-round games Saturday.
In 1A West, Hancock (3-16) will travel to Northern Garrett, while South Hagerstown (2-19) will host Beall. In 1A South, Brunswick (10-8) travels to Forest Park. In 4A East, Frederick (7-14) travels to C.M. Wright and Thomas Johnson (12-7) travels to Glen Burnie.
Catoctin (10-6), Williamsport (10-7) and Smithsburg (13-6) all received byes to the quarterfinals next Tuesday. Catoctin plays at Forestville in 1A South, while in 1A West, Williamsport will host the Hancock/Northern Garrett winner and Smithsburg will host the Beall/South Hagerstown winner.
n On the boys side, North Hagerstown (17-4, No. 6 Herald-Mail poll) and Middletown (15-4, No. 5 Herald-Mail poll) earned the top two seeds in 2A West. The Hubs will host the Century/Glenelg winner in a quarterfinal, while the Knights will host the winner of Centennial/Howard in another quarterfinal. Both games will be next Monday.
Also in 2A West, Walkersville (8-12) hosts Hammond in a first round game Friday, with the winner facing Fort Hill next Monday.
In 4A East, Thomas Johnson (20-0, No. 1 Herald-Mail poll) is the top seed and Frederick (14-6, No. 3 Herald-Mail poll) earned the No. 3 seed. Both will play quarterfinals next Monday, as TJ will host the Arundel/North County winner and Frederick will host the winner of South River/Westminster.
In 1A West, Smithsburg (13-7) earned the No. 4 seed and Boonsboro (12-8) drew the No. 5 seed, meaning the Leopards will host the Warriors in a quarterfinal next Monday.
South Hagerstown (14-5, No. 10 Herald-Mail poll) is seeded third in the region, and will host the winner of Friday's first round matchup between Beall and Clear Spring (8-12, at Clear Spring) in another quarterfinal.
In other first round games Friday, Hancock (9-11) will host Westmar and Williamsport (9-9) will host Northern Garrett.
In 1A South, Brunswick (13-7), which won five of its last six games, earned the No. 3 seed and will host School No. 419 in a quarterfinal next Monday. Also, Catoctin (0-18) travels to W.E.B. Dubois for a first round game Friday.
