Betty M. Crider


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Betty Mae Rubeck Hartman Crider, 78, of 6968 Hades Church Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at her home.

Born Aug. 22, 1924, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Olive Smith Rubeck.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond K. Hartman, in 1993, and her second husband, Daniel Crider, in 1996.

She was a homemaker and also worked for 10 years at Austin Hill Clothing in Waynesboro, Pa.

She was a member of Shank's Church of the Brethren near Greencastle, Pa., where she was a member of Shining Light Group and served as a deacon.

She is survived by her husband, John A. Crider, whom she married Feb. 14, 1997; one daughter, Marie A. Fitzgerald of Fayetteville, Pa.; three sons, Samuel J. Hartman of Lawson, Mo., Paul E. Hartman of Enola, Pa., and Kenneth R. Hartman of Waynesboro, Pa.; three stepchildren, Betty Crider and Judy R. Grimes, both of Newville, Pa., and Darlene M. Bockin of Shippensburg, Pa.; one sister, Jeanie Monn of Zullinger, Pa.; two brothers, Clarence Rubeck of Berlin Height, Ohio, and John Rubeck of Zullinger, Pa.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Davis and Doris Rubeck; one brother, Daniel Rubeck; and one stepdaughter, Joyce Nickey.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Shank's Church of the Brethren, Greencastle. Ministers John Shelly and Fred Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, and Monday at 10 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201; or American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.




Brenda J. Matthews


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Brenda J. Matthews, 48, of 1850 Edgar Ave., died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born May 4, 1954, in Conway, S.C., she was the daughter of Luther Randall of Conway and Fannie Bratcher Randall of Norristown, Pa.

She was a graduate of Franco Beauty Academy in Pittsburgh.

She was a homemaker.

She attended Guilford Hills Brethren in Christ Church.

She was a member of Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Courtney O. Matthews; one daughter, Jovita F. Thompson of Silver Spring, Md.; one son, Jonathan Matthews of Chambersburg; two sisters, Priscilla Snowden and Barbara Stephens, both of Norristown; and three brothers, Charles Randall, James Randall and Gary Randall, all of Norristown.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Randall.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Chambersburg.

Burial will be private.

Visitation will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.




Clara L. Gilroy


MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Clara Lucille "Jiggs" Gilroy, 76, of 8132A Bolivar Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.

Born April 19, 1926, in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late James Miley and Frances Naomi Shank Gilroy.

She was employed by Muse Tailoring Co. and Frederick Tailoring Co., both in Frederick. She retired from Fedders Corporation in Walkersville, Md., in 1987.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown.

She was a member of AARP.

She is survived by four sisters, Frances M. Gilroy, Shirley Wiles, Mina J. Gilroy and Karen M. Gilroy, all of Middletown; and two brothers, John J. Gilroy and David P. Gilroy, both of Hagerstown.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, Middletown. The Rev. William M. Bucher will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.

Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lawrence E. McKenrick


GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Lawrence E. "Larry" McKenrick, 61, of 45 S. Washington St., died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at his home.

Born Jan. 15, 1942, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of Julia Grime McKenrick of Waynesboro and the late Ernest McKenrick.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharlet A. "Shottie" Cump McKenrick, on Oct. 11, 2002. They were married Aug. 28, 1945.

He was employed as a welder by Grove Worldwide in Shady Grove, Pa., for more than 30 years. He and his wife operated a craft store, Potpourri by McKenrick, in their home.

He was of the Roman Catholic faith.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one daughter, Carrie I. Keefer of Greencastle; two sons, Tim E. McKenrick of Cornish Flatts, N.H., and Sean J. McKenrick of Greencastle; three sisters, Caroline Redding of Gettysburg, Pa., Shirley Fleagle and Linda Gladhill, both of Waynesboro; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.
