Today's Maryland premiere of the Civil War movie "Gods and Generals" may cause some traffic problems in downtown Hagerstown, according to a news release from the city.

Parking will be prohibited from 1 to 7 p.m. on the first block of North Potomac Street and the first block of South Potomac Street, the city said.

The first block of North Potomac will be closed from 3 to 7 p.m. while the first block of South Potomac will be closed from 3 to 9 p.m., the release said.

The movie is being shown at The Maryland Theatre at 8 p.m.

Some of the people attending the premiere also are attending a private reception at 5:30 p.m. at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts.

The event is expected to bring at least 500 cars to the area, the release said.

Buses will take guests to the museum for the reception and later to the theater.

The parking deck and public parking lot on Potomac Street near City Hall will have restricted parking from 1 to 7 p.m.

The museum's parking lot will be reserved for limousines, and the stone parking lot north of the museum will be reserved for buses, the release said.

No other cars will be allowed in the museum driveway.
