Cable show to feature Hagerstown Grist Mill

The Hagerstown Grist Mill will be featured on HGTV's "Building Character" show Sunday at 8:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

The Hagerstown Grist Mill, located in Beaver Creek, is the home of Luigi and Mary Jane Perini.

Also, located at the Hagerstown Grist Mill is The Cooper's Shed, which specializes in vintage textiles and other vintage collectibles.

HGTV spent three days for 12 hours each in the Perinis' home filming footage for this weekend's show.

HGTV is cable channel 59 on Antietam Cable Television.

Center to host monthly black history programs

A program focusing on black history in Washington County will be presented each month beginning Feb. 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bethel Gardens Community Center. Brian Robinson presents the program funded through a Washington County Community Partnership grant.

In addition to the program, activities at the center will include face painting, youth activities, literature and food.

Organizations may apply for Community Benefits

Washington County Health System, Inc. is accepting applications for its Community Benefits Fund.

Grants are awarded annually to nonprofit organizations that work to prevent health problems and promote health improvement for underserved populations at risk. The Community Health Council, a subcommittee of the Washington County Health System Board, selects the recipient or recipients of the Community Benefits Fund each year.

Organizations interested in applying for the Community Benefits Fund may call 301-790-8104 for more information or for an application.

The deadline for receiving applications is March 7.

City Farmers Market vendor spaces available

City of Hagerstown officials recently announced that Hagerstown City Farmers Market currently has a number of vendor spaces available. City Farmers Market, at 25 W. Church St. in downtown Hagerstown, operates on Saturday mornings from 5 a.m. to noon.

Vendors at market sell produce, plants and flowers seasonally. There also is a variety of craft items, many handmade.
