SMITHSBURG - For the Smithsburg Leopards, there's no place like home.

Smithsburg continued its home-court success Thursday night, posting a 67-56 win over the Boonsboro Warriors in a Monocacy Valley Athletic League boys basketball game.

Smithsburg (13-4 overall, 10-4 MVAL) improved to 7-1 at home this season.

"I think that we had a big home-court advantage tonight," Smithsburg coach Eric Gerber said. "Our kids fed off of the crowd a little bit. It's just great to see the gym packed again and to see the student body take an interest in the basketball program."

Smithsburg senior center Corey Brown, a three-year starter, shook off his first-half foul trouble by scoring 14 straight points during a 5 1/2-minute stretch that spanned the third and fourth quarters. During that time, Brown helped Smithsburg extend its lead from 31-28 to 47-35 with 5:13 remaining.

The Leopards led by at least eight points the rest of the game.

"My shooting touch was on at the right time," Brown said. "We had a good crowd tonight and they got me pumped up. That group is like an extra player on the floor. Our only loss at home has been on that last-second shot by Middletown."

Brown had 20 points and seven rebounds, while Ryan Marquiss added 19 points and five steals. David Gouff scored 14 points - including a 10-for-11 performance from the foul line - while Gerry Spessard made four steals.

Lonnell Smith had 22 points and seven rebounds for Boonsboro (10-8 overall, 7-7 MVAL), while Keith Kellinger added 19 points and seven rebounds. Travis Itnyre grabbed seven rebounds, while Mitchell Smith dished off seven assists.

Smithsburg made 19 of 23 foul shots, including 12 of 14 in the fourth quarter.
