County, city to split cost of attorney

The Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday voted to help fund the nuisance abatement attorney position through June 30, which is the end of the 2003 fiscal year.

Brett R. Wilson has been employed as the grant-funded, part-time nuisance abatement attorney since July 29, 2002.

The grant funds for the post have been cut off.

The County Commissioners will allocate $7,500 toward the position. The City of Hagerstown will also contribute the same amount, according to county documents.

The county's contribution will come from the State's Attorney's budget surplus.

If the grant is not renewed for fiscal year 2004, the position will have to be abolished or funded with general fund money, according to county documents.

Commissioners reappoint two

The Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday voted unanimously to reappoint Jay Grimes and Mary Kalin to the Emergency Services Council.

Grimes and Kalin were appointed to three-year terms.
