GIRLS BASKETBALL

Dee Brown scored the 1,000th point of her career on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from halfcourt to end the first half, and No. 6 Broadfording easily defeated Calvary Christian 69-30 on Tuesday night.

"My daughter, she keeps the stats and everything for me, so when she hit the shot at halftime, we went running into the locker room," Lions coach Dana Gonzales said. "My daughter came over and said, 'That's it! That's it!' We had to bring her out at halftime to honor her."

Brown, who was second in the area averaging 19.1 points per game as of last Thursday, finished with 28 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and four steals for Broadfording (23-4, 13-0 Mason Dixon Christian Conference).

"She's just a total ball player," Gonzales said. "Even when she's not scoring, it's because of her unselfishness. ... I don't think there's been a game where we haven't had an official come over and say how good her game is. ... She's an exciting player to watch."

Natasha Wheeler had 21 points, 13 rebounds, four steals and four blocks for the Lions.

"I really feel if we'd had our starting five all year, we'd be undefeated," Gonzales said. Wheeler missed the first half of the season due to academic ineligibility.
