CLEAR SPRING - The Clear Spring Blazers saved their best basketball of the game for the final five minutes.

The Blazers outscored the Broadfording Christian Academy Lions 15-2 during the final five minutes to come out on top with a 67-58 boys basketball win Monday night.

Broadfording (19-8) led Clear Spring (6-11) by a 56-52 margin with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter before the Blazers started on their decisive tear.

After tying the score, Clear Spring took the lead for good at 61-57 with 1:41 to go in the game on a pair of baskets by 6-foot-5 sophomore center Alex Tyler.

Tyler ended up with 19 points and nine rebounds.

"It was a big win for our team coming off three straight tough losses," Tyler said. "Everybody had the energy and everybody did their part for the team. We played tough down the stretch. We got loose balls. We came together as a team."

Zeb Jacobs came up with 13 points and four steals, Will Worthington added 11 points and nine rebounds and Cody Beard dished off seven assists for the Blazers.

"Unlike our last game, we were able to get it inside to our big guys tonight," Clear Spring coach Don Harnish said. "I thought that we did OK down the stretch. We were able to keep our composure. We were able to eventually take the lead and keep the lead."

Eric Longerbeam scored 16 points, Sean Moore added 14 points and Jon Bishop had 12 points for the Lions.

"We had poor shot selection and below-average defense," Broadfording coach George Nunn said. "Clear Spring got a lot of offensive rebounds and that will beat you every time. They hit big shots down the stretch. They played real hard."

The Lions built a 16-13 lead by the end of the first quarter.

The Blazers came back to take a 33-31 lead at halftime and extended the lead to 51-45 by the end of the third quarter.

"I'm very pleased with the way and with the energy that our guys played," Harnish said. "We have been playing well, but our record doesn't look like it. We have lost a lot of ball games by close scores."
