How many school counselors are there in Washington County Public Schools and what do they do?

There are 17 counselors assigned to the county's elementary schools; 14 assigned to the middle schools including the Alternative Learning Center; and 18 high school counselors including a counselor for Washington County Technical High School. Many of the elementary schools are served by a part-time counselor.

Counselors work with three areas of student development: academic development, career development, and personal/social development. They help students become more effective in school and understand the relationship of academics to the world of work. They help teach students about making decisions, setting goals and taking necessary action to achieve their goals.
