Mail Call for 1/30

January 31, 2003

"I am glad to see that they are going to do more monitoring of people passing stopped school buses. This is really needed. Something else that is really needed, is someone to monitor the traffic at the schools themselves here in the city. There is a lot of illegal driving practices going on."

"Well it's tax time again, I wonder if the government is going to give the people who are on welfare a big refund like they did last year? What about the people who are working? What about giving us a big tax break?"

"For the person who is complaining about the word 'bastard' being used in the Williamsport High School play. In the Bible, the word 'bastard' is used in Deuteronomy 23:2, Zechariah 9:6 and Hebrews 12:8, so we shouldn't read the Bible in church because of this word. Give me a break."

"I have been reading about these homeless people in the library. The article in the paper said that they are looking for jobs that they would take any kind of work. I am curious, do they think someone is going to come into the library and ask them if they want a job? The job isn't going to come to them, you have to get out there and move around and look for yourself."

"I agree with Tim Rowland's column in the Jan. 27 paper. 'Williamsport play getting the word out.' These kids these days haven't heard anything at all. You know Tim Rowland is right, they would rather listen to that rap music but the parents want to get upset about a few bad words in a play. I went to Williamsport High School years ago and I still like the plays. Wake up people, these kids these days know more now than what we do."

"I don't know about anybody else, but Iplan to boycott all Susan Sarandon movies in the future. She reminds me of Jane Fonda. She's welcome to her opinion, but I don't have to go see any of her movies either."

"I want to know what can be done about all the junk cars and trucks on Crystal Falls Drive. Please someone in the county look into this."

"Would someone please tell me how or who you get in touch with when you have to have a light put on the street, where there is only three outlets. There are a lot of businesses around. Who do I contact to see about getting this done?"

"To the person who called Mail Call and said that he and his wife both worked five days a week and they keep seeing new cars and homes. I agree with you, they can't all be doctors, lawyers, politicians or judges. So what are they? They can't all be drug dealers, they are developers. They get to develop for free in Washington County. We have no impact fees and any project they want, they get approved. I am not anti-development, but I can tell you, I have a couple of relatives of mine that are worth $25 million. They are probably, one of the wealthiest people in Washington County. Believe me, they made it and neither one of them had a college education."

"I think they should bring the Inspectors home from Iraq and let them search over around Detrick and the watershed in Frederick County. How do they expect to find anything in Iraq when they can't even find anything here in the United States?"

"I would like to know why the people in Hancock now have to pay for long distance to find out school closing, cancellations or updates?"

"I would like to have the 800 number that you published a while back to stop the telemarketers from calling you at home."

"I would like to thank the SPCA and the health department for trapping and testing the cat that bit me. The man and woman from the SPCA even picked up broken glass from the window that the cat broke and the lady from the SPCA cleaned the snow from my car, so I could get to the doctor. The lady from the Health Department called me on Sunday to let me know that I wouldn't have to take the rabies shot."
