CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The nine participants in Franklin County's annual Wellness Poster Program contest were honored Tuesday afternoon.

The contest was open to county employees, children of county employees and retirees.

The theme of the contest was "Be Safe! Take Care of Yourself."

Each poster conveyed a health or safety message like 6-year-old Tristan Daywalt's poster reminding children not to walk behind school buses and employee Valerie Sandoval's poster on preventing skin cancer.

"Safety posters do more with one picture than you can say with all kinds of words," said John Hoffman, safety information and compliance officer. "Safety is two things. One is responsibility, the other is awareness. It is your job to be safe."

Participants included:

  • n Preschool to third grade: Tristan Daywalt, Taylor Diehl, Kati McClure and Jessi McClure.

  • Fourth to sixth grade: Dalton Daywalt.

  • Seventh to ninth grade: Sarah Stump.

  • Adult: Phil Darby and Valerie Sandoval.

  • Seniors: Betty Niemond.

Stump was the grand prize winner. All contestants received participation certificates and prizes, which were donated by the Chambersburg YMCA, Franklin County Chapter of the Red Cross, Cluggy's Amusement Center, Lincoln Lanes Bowling, Nellie Fox Bowling, Weis Markets, Giant Foods, Cosmic Skate and Play and the Renfrew Museum.

The posters were judged by the Human Services/Court House Health and Safety Committee.
