Truman, Lawrence crowned, progress to state pageant

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Jacki Truman was crowned Miss Berkeley County and Tiffany Lawrence was crowned Miss Potomac Highlands Saturday night at Apollo Civic Theatre.

Truman, 19, of Falling Waters, W.Va., is a student at Shepherd College. She is the daughter of Kim and Gary Pearson.

Lawrence, 20, of Shepherdstown, W.Va., is a junior at Shepherd College. She is the daughter of Tony and Cheryl Lawrence.

Truman received her crown from Devon Dickson, Miss Berkeley County 2002.

Lawrence received her crown from Carly Cochran, Miss Potomac Highlands 2002.

Both received a scholarship, gifts from local merchants and the chance to participate in the Miss West Virginia Scholarship Pageant in June in Clarksburg, W.Va.

Six contestants competed for the Miss Berkeley County title.

First runner-up was Nicole Johnson, 17, of Martinsburg, a senior at Martinsburg High School. She is the daughter of Patty and Marshall Timm.


A nonfinalist interview award went to Alyson Benton, 20, of Bunker Hill, W.Va. She is the daughter of Leo and Nancy Benton.

A nonfinalist talent award went to Whitney Whittaker, 19, of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va. The daughter of Charles R. Whittaker Jr. and Brenda R. Whittaker, she performed a baton twirling routine.

Six contestants competed for the Miss Potomac Highlands title.

First runner-up was Amy Martinez, 21, of Huntington, W.Va. She is the daughter of Rita and Hector Martinez.

Kasey Montgomery, 19, of Petersburg, W.Va., received the nonfinalist talent award and the nonfinalist interview award. The daughter of Marty and Wanda Montgomery, she sang "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face."
