WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Waynesboro Police were looking for leads in the armed robbery of a borough convenience store over the weekend.

The robber entered Zack's Mini Mart at 405 N. Grant St. just before 10 p.m. Saturday, laid a rifle on the counter and demanded money from the female employee, Waynesboro Police Chief Ray Shultz said.

"She gave him the money in the register, an unknown amount at this time," he said.

The robber was last seen running from the store on foot in a southbound direction.

There were no customers or other employees in the store at the time, and the clerk was not injured, Shultz said.

The robber was described as a white male, about 5-feet 7-inches tall, with a stocky or a heavyset build, police said. He was wearing a dark ski mask, a blue waist-length jacket, dark pants and white gloves.

The rifle had a silver barrel and a scope, police said.

Shultz said there was no indication the robber got into a vehicle, but officers who responded to the store immediately after the robbery were unable to locate him.

"We checked around the area but came up with nothing. There is not indication after he fled where he may have gone or whether he got into a vehicle," he said.

Shultz said he was asking the public to call police if they have any information on the robbery.

Armed robberies are not common occurrences in Waynesboro.

"There is nothing similar to this that I can remember," Shultz said. "I don't know when the last armed robbery in Waynesboro was."
